A House Turned Into a Home
We talk a lot about why it’s a good idea financially to own a home, but one thing we forget to mention is the different emotional reasons as to why you should own a home. As the saying goes, “Home is where the heart is,” and it’s especially true when you think about the emotional connections you can have as a homeowner.
1. Owning your home is an accomplishment worth celebrating
The “American Dream” is to own a home with a white picket fence that your family can grow and have the sweetest memories in. So more than likely, you’ve worked very hard, or are currently trying, to achieve this dream. Whether it’s your first time buying a home or your fourth, it is a massive milestone that many can only dream of happening. Never stop celebrating your accomplishments, you’ve earned it.
2. There's no place like home
Owning your own home offers not only safety and security, but it also serves as a comfortable place where you can simply relax after a long day. Sometimes, that just all we need in order to rejuvenate and feel perfectly content. My house is my comfort zone. It’s where I can feel truly myself and not have to worry about anyone else bothering me, but it’s different when you’re renting a home. While I was renting a home, I felt like my house had to be in perfect condition at every moment because I was fearful of my landlord needing to come and inspect everything. I constantly had to worry about even the tiniest things, such as if I had too many decorations hanging on the wall. As a homeowner, I never have to worry because I am my own “landlord.” I don’t have to be concerned that someone will show up out of the blue to inspect my home.
3. You have complete control over renovations, updates, and your style
This goes along with not having to worry about having to deal with a landlord. Not only can you do simple things such as painting the walls in the house and hanging decorations without being worried about how many holes you put in the walls, but you can also do full on remodels/renovations! You don’t have to worry about asking for permission, or having to pay a fee of any kind, you can just do it. If something isn’t aesthetically pleasing to you, change it. When you own a home, it’s as simple as that. Speaking of having fees, it’s often very common that you will either not be able to have a pet of any kind in a rental property, or you have to pay a nice fee in order to keep your pet. In your own home, you can get however many pets you would like. Even small victories are worth so much when you own a home. There’s really just no other feeling like walking into your home knowing that you made this happen.

Whether you’re a first-time homebuyer or a move-up buyer who is ready to start the next chapter of your life, now is the perfect time to reflect on the intangible factors that turn a simple house into a happy home.
